Melbourne Airport’s New 10-Min Free Pick-Up Area

From this week, travellers can wave goodbye to the dreaded one-minute pick-up limit at Melbourne Airport. Travellers being picked up from Tullamarine will now have a whole new area with a 10-minute free pick-up allowance. After those ten minutes, fees will begin to accumulate.
The new pick-up zone is at the northern end of the car park (opposite the Qantas terminal).
Chief of parking and ground access, Lorie Argus said: “The new zone has 200 bays and will help reduce pressure points at the existing free public pick-up lanes.”
The area will operate on a timed ticket and boom gate system. Additional fees start at $8 for an additional give minutes, $12 to park for up to 30 minutes. Explaining why these rates are higher than short-term cap parking, Argus said it, “we want to ensure it is used for pick-ups rather than drivers trying to park for longer periods.”
